Azure Attoe is helping add art to our lives.
“We Put Up Art,” reads Azure Attoe’s business card. Printed in white letters against a colorful background, the slogan vividly explains the mission of her Pearl company, Project Portland (503-544-0577, projectportland.com). “I help hang people’s art and arrange it in a way that feels right,” says Attoe.
“I feel honored that people have me in their homes and include me in that process.”
The artist has been adorning the walls of galleries and museums from New York City to Berlin for 15 years. Since she began Project Portland last fall, she’s worked with local venues, including the Oregon Jewish Museum and Nationale gallery, and she has collaborations in the works with a few Pearl galleries. She also works with private collectors, displaying their works and helping them find the next treasure to complement their homes. It’s a task she takes to heart.
“You invest so much money and emotion in your artwork that you just want it to be installed properly,” she says. “I feel honored that people have me in their homes and include me in that process.”
Attoe also teaches 3- to 14-year-olds at the Portland Child Art Studio, offering such classes as “Art and Activism” and “Girls Art,” Whether she’s teaching it, installing it, or creating it, Attoe’s life is art. –Lauren Kershner | Photos courtesy Azure Attoe
