Room & Board Opens in the Pearl

35-year-old company brings classic, contemporary American-made home furnishings to Portland’s Pearl District

Room & Board, the Minneapolis-based retailer offering modern American-made furniture and accessories is opening a new store at 380 NW 13th Avenue at the corner of NW 13th and Flanders, in the former home of Cargo. To celebrate the new location, their first in Portland, Room & Board (380 NW 13th, will be featuring tastings from a range of local makers all month long. Alma Chocolate, Ancient Heritage Dairy, Bull in China, Cellar 503 and Nossa Familia Coffee are among the companies sharing their goods starting at the opening on May 15th.

The retailer will also support the local non-profit p:ear throughout its opening month. P:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art, and recreation.

The new Room & Board showroom will feature 9,500 square feet of modern design inspiration set against a backdrop of hardwood floors, an original timber ceiling and an abundance of natural light.

“We’re thrilled to join other design retailers, art galleries, and boutiques in the thriving Pearl District and honor the historic integrity of this building,” says retail market manager Jim Scolastico. “Portland consumers are design savvy and we’re excited to bring modern, sustainable furnishings and accessories to more homes and businesses throughout Oregon.”

Exclusive Designs from Oregon Artisans

Inspired by the Portland design community, Room & Board has partnered with local artisans to curate an exclusive line of products offered only at their new location. Products include Imperial Stock Ranch alpaca woven throws and blankets, Pigeon Toe Ceramics tumblers and carafes, Caravan Pacific lamps and lighting. Additional Oregon-centric accessories including framed vintage postcards of Multnomah Falls and the Oregon Coast will be available in the store.

In addition to the new local offerings, Room & Board’s popular Calvin Collection is handcrafted by Wood Castle in Albany, Oregon, from Pacific Coast maple. The company, founded in 1978 by the Loe family, is now one of the last remaining furniture makers in Oregon, and their mission to create heirloom-quality pieces still informs their design aesthetic.
