The always exceptional Labor Day weekend showcase, Art in the Pearl, returns to the leafy North Park Blocks, between Davis and Flanders streets, this year. In September at this eclectic venue, gallery co-owner Kenneth Saylor debuts his newest body of work, “All That We Are, All That We Need,” which combines scribbling and mixed-media backgrounds. The following month, see Jo Grishman’s strikingly imaginative sculptures, which comprise clay, encaustic, and found objects. And in November, renowned Oregon painter Edyta Salak debuts her new series, “Guards of Eden” (upper right), a celebration of “this earthly garden we have all been gifted.”

Celebrating four years in business, acclaimed J. Pepin Art Gallery will kick off the fall season with a group show featuring artists Dennis Anderson, Meghan Caughey, Chris Foster, Cher Odum, Alexandra Petersen, Jeff Petersen, and Jennifer Pepin. Mediums include acrylic, oil, watercolor, and encaustic with styles ranging from figurative to abstract in a wide range of sizes. The portland installment of the nationally acclaimed Urban Air Market returns to NW 13th and Hoyt the first Saturday of September, showcasing dozens of eco-cool accessories, clothes, household items, and other goods with sustainable designs. More than 70 up-and-coming designers will be on hand, including Mane Message (hair pins and ties), Zan Ceramics (midcentury modern vases and bowls), and Emily’s Handmade Soaps (vegan bath products).
