The mission behind Perch Furniture: finding you the perfect seat
When Willi and Jonathan Galloway came up with an ambitious plan for a customizable, sofa-focused furniture shop in the Pearl District, they didn’t sit on the idea for long. “We’d always wanted to own our business and had a goal of starting before we turned 30,” says Willi. “We decided just to go for it.”
“We try to tailor our furniture to our client’s lifestyle, and to help them find something they really love…”
In 2010, with a year to spare before they reached their thirties, the couple opened Perch Furniture (923 NW 10th Ave, 503-208-5128, perchfurniture.com) along the handsome 10th Avenue boardwalk. Inspired by the similar concept behind a friend’s store in Seattle, the Galloways’ shop specializes in built-to-order upholstered furniture with an emphasis on seating. Clients choose the dimensions, color, fabric, and even the sofa legs to fit in seamlessly with the aesthetic they’re seeking. If you haven’t the slightest idea what you’re looking for, or where to start, arrange for one of Perch’s free in-home design consultations.
“We view our customers as collaborators,” says Willi. “We try to tailor our furniture to our client’s lifestyle, and to help them find something they really love that will fit not just their room but their personality.”
Perch also teaches its customers how to properly clean and care for furniture so that it will last as long as possible. With midrange prices, customizable styles, and hundreds of fabric options—including pet-friendly, high-quality leather, and natural and organic fibers—they carry designs and styles that complement every lifestyle.
“Our goal is for our clients never to have to compromise on furniture,” says Willi. “You shouldn’t have to buy something that’s almost right. We want to help people get their dream couch.” –Lauren Kershner
